Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine Sullivan was born and lived within Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam Her mother, who has been a backup singer in the past at Philadelphia International Records. As a child, her father was appointed to be City's Historic Strawberry Mansion curator. She and her family moved later into this historical building. In 2005 she graduated from Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in the class of an alumna of the vocal music department. Sullivan played the contralto singer for the youth choir, and after a few years was a part of the adult choir. Sullivan wasn't exposed to secular music at beginning. "When I reached 11 year old, a person asked me to register for the gospel recording. I didn't want to sign up for that," she says. "Then McDonald's offered a competition to kids from cities. It was then that I had the opportunity to perform Accept The Grace God Gives me on Showtime Apollo. My fans were very enthusiastic." In the year 13 she sang with Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday. Sullivan had signed her first contract to Jive Records when she was 15. At the age of 15, she was signed to Jive Records. The label recorded an whole album at Jive Records, however it was not made available for release. Sullivan was later dropped from the label. Missy Elliott was her producer on a couple of tracks from the album she released her debut. One of them was "Backstabbers" by Timbaland the song that Elliott produced, became an instant hit.
